Overview
Understanding Testosterone and Low Testosterone
Testosterone is the primary male hormone. It influences far more than sex drive. It contributes to energy, mood, motivation, focus, muscle maintenance, body composition, bone health, and sleep quality. When levels are healthy, most men do not think about it. When levels decline, the effects tend to appear gradually across several areas of daily life at once.
Testosterone naturally decreases with age, often beginning in the thirties and continuing steadily over the following decades. For some men the decline is modest and unnoticed. For others it becomes clinically significant, producing symptoms that affect how they feel, perform, and recover.
Lifestyle factors, sleep quality, stress, metabolic health, certain medications, and underlying medical conditions can also lower testosterone. Because the change is gradual, many men adjust to it without realizing what has shifted, and only look into it after months or years of feeling less like themselves.
